As we expand our portfolio, we are looking for an experienced health and safety professional to join our London-based team. This is a critical role as we scale our hydrogen R&D activities as well as construct and operate renewable energy generation sites. Health and Safety Lead the development and implementation of all Health & Safety (H&S) systems, policies, and procedures across the business Provide clear, practical H&S advice, guidance, training, and instruction across all functions Identify and manage operational risks and hazards, and ensure suitable controls are in place Conduct and lead inspections, audits, and risk assessments, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation Promote H&S awareness and accountability through staff inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing engagement Investigate incidents independently, compile detailed reports, and drive remedial and preventative actions Monitor and analyse safety performance data, report trends, and recommend improvements Serve as the key point of contact for regulatory compliance, training, and safety-related matters Build strong working relationships across all levels and challenge unsafe behaviours with confidence and credibility Ensure design compliance with DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) and COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) where applicable Project & Operational Oversight Work closely with the R&D team to ensure a safe working environment throughout our hydrogen lab-scale testing and scale-up, working to minimise hazard and risk Support hydrogen-specific risk management using ISO/TR 15916 guidelines for basic considerations for the safety of hydrogen systems Develop emergency response plans for hydrogen release, fires, and explosions in collaboration with local authorities Compliance & Training Oversee safety auditing, risk assessments, and corrective actions to maintain the highest standards Develop and implement safety workshops and training programs to enhance awareness and competency across teams Maintain and audit safety files to meet HSE (Health and Safety Executive) reporting and record-keeping obligations Lead internal safety incident investigations and participate in external regulatory audits Requirements Proven experience as the sole H&S lead or in a standalone role where you’ve set up and managed safety systems from the ground up Recognised H&S qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH membership) Strong, up-to-date knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practice Confident preparing risk assessments, method statements, policies, and investigation reports Analytical mindset with experience using safety data to inform decisions Strong communicator who can influence, educate, and hold others accountable at all levels Organised, proactive, and comfortable working independently Experience in large construction projects is highly desirable Benefits Competitive salary Biannual bonus scheme Fully expensed tech to match your needs Paid annual leave Deliveroo breakfast and dinner for office based employees
