Job Title: Head of Design

Salary: GBP 70,000 : GBP 80,000 per annum

We are currently seeking a Head of Design to join a growing engineering and manufacturing business based in Wakefield. This is a senior leadership opportunity to take ownership of an established design function within a company delivering high:value engineered products into industrial markets.
The business has experienced significant growth in recent years and is now looking for a strong technical leader to provide direction, structure, and cohesion across the design team while supporting continued expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
: Lead, manage, and develop a small team of design engineers.
: Oversee the design and delivery of high:value engineered/capital equipment products.
: Translate client requirements into practical, manufacturable engineering solutions.
: Ensure designs meet commercial, technical, and manufacturing objectives.
: Drive continuous improvement within the design and engineering function.
: Work closely with senior leadership to support strategic growth plans.
: Utilise 3D CAD software (Solidworks or similar) to review and guide design output.
Skills and Experience Required:
: Strong background in mechanical or product design within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
: Experience working on industrial or capital equipment projects.
: Previous leadership or team management experience.
: Proficiency in Solidworks or similar 3D CAD software.
: Ability to manage client relationships and technical discussions.
: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles.
: Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline (preferred).
