THE ROLE We are looking for a Health and Safety Assistant to join our team in a developmental role. This position is ideal for someone at the start of their Health & Safety career or with a strong interest in the area, who is keen to learn and grow. Initially, the role will focus on administrative and coordination support, playing a key part in keeping Health & Safety systems accurate and up to date. From early on, you will also be involved in site inspections, audits, and compliance activities, with the role developing over time as your experience grows. You will support Health & Safety audits, inspections and site visits, manage H&S documentation and data, assist with incident investigations and follow‑up actions, and help monitor corrective actions and reporting. The role also involves providing both onsite and remote support across Cooke sites, with regular travel to seawater locations and occasional travel to other UK sites. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT We are committed to developing the right person and expect the role to include formal training such as: ISO 45001 IOSH NEBOSH General Certificate This role may suit graduates or non-graduates with the right attitude and willingness to learn. SKILLS REQUIRED Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Forms, SharePoint, and OneDrive Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with strong attention to detail Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise completing workloads Self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-changing environment Comfortable embarking and disembarking vessels and visiting seawater sites in variable weather conditions Supportive and proactive approach to assisting and coaching colleagues on H&S matters Ability to identify and highlight areas for improvement following audits or inspections Full UK driving license.
