BMJ Digital Health has an exciting opportunity for two Assistant Section Editors (fixed term contracts, 12 months) to join a talented and friendly team working on BMJ Best Practice, the BMJ Group’s award-winning online clinical decision support tool for doctors and other healthcare professionals. BMJ Best Practice provides the latest evidence-based information to underpin diagnosis and treatment decisions across more than 1,000 medical conditions and symptom presentations.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a clinical background or proven experience of working in an STM publishing environment who is looking to draw on and further expand their medical editing skills.
Responsibilities
* You will support the team of Section Editors in commissioning, updating and editing Best Practice clinical content to ensure that it remains safe, accurate, and consistent with latest evidence and clinical guidelines.
* You will liaise with external clinician authors and peer reviewers to ensure appropriate quality assurance of new and updated content.
* You will reshape content to bring it in line with our style guide and make it compelling and digestible for our target audiences.
* You may be required to deputise for a Section Editor, curating content across one or more specialist clinical areas.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* A degree in a clinical or biomedical subject is essential and a postgraduate degree or qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. postgraduate clinical training, journalism, science communication) would be an advantage.
* You might come from a clinical or a medical editing background. You will need either:
- Proven experience of researching, writing and editing complex medical or scientific
information for a demanding audience of healthcare professionals OR
- Extensive experience as a practising clinician (doctor/pharmacist/nurse or other
healthcare profession), ideally with an educational element to your role.
You will need to demonstrate:
* Proven ability to work under pressure to deadlines and to confidently juggle multiple tasks
* An ability to adapt to new digital systems
* Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
