Support the Technical Director, to provide a high-quality technical management service covering all aspects of building services and ensuring that technical risk and opportunities within the business are managed, from inception through project implementation and client handover. Substantiate technical compliance with Scope of Works information, Project Specifications, Regulations and Legislation, as well as undertaking technical management of both internal and external designs, ensuring that effective working relationships are established and maintained with internal project teams, clients, consultants, sub-contractors and specialist suppliers.
Job Requirements
Experience required
* Proven experience at a senior project delivery level.
* Experience in the high technology or industrial sector. (Desirable)
* Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, planning processes, and statutory compliance.
* Understanding of the Building Regulation Principal Designer Role.
* Experience in technical detailing, material specification, and preparing construction packages.
* Proficiency in design and engineering analysis software and production of specifications.
* Strong construction knowledge with the ability to supervise site staff/contractors.
* Extensive experience in architectural detailing and researching standard manufacturers' technical and performance details.
* Recent experience in design and technical management within the construction sector.
* Ability to produce technical specifications.
* Proven experience managing the design process during both pre-construction and construction phases.
* Strong understanding of design and build construction contracts.
* Extensive experience in design, with a working knowledge of current legislation and practices.
Advance Working Knowledge
* BIM – Revit and Navisworks.
* Dialux and/or Relux.
* Amtech and/or ElectricalOM.
* Lightning Protection Risk Assessment Calculations.
* 2D and 3D AutoCAD skills.
* Microsoft Office Suite.
Working Knowledge
* Revit suite 3D skills.
* Navisworks Manage.
* Autodesk Construction Cloud
Qualifications
* (B.Eng. or Bsc) Qualified and demonstrate proven experience in a role, such as Architect, Architectural Technician, Technologist, with leadership responsibilities - minimum
* Membership in a relevant professional body
* Working towards Chartered
* MCIAT (desirable)
* ARB Registered (desirable)

Job Responsibilities
The Technical Manager will lead and manage technical discussions and oversee the design process from pre-construction through to handover, ensuring the successful and efficient delivery of projects. This includes managing technical aspects, resolving complex design issues, and ensuring compliance with regulations while maintaining cost-effectiveness and high-quality standards.
The Technical Manager shall participate in all technical aspects of the project lifecycle, from inception to handover, advising on adherence to timelines, budget, and quality standards.
General Responsibilities
* Promote “Safety in Design”.
* Produce and develop designs for electrical building services at various stages of a project from concept to handover as encompassed in the list above.
* Ensure that designs meet legislative, regulatory and user requirements ensuring positive actions are taken to avoid abortive designs.
* Contribute to the preparation of Health and Safety method statements and risk assessments in respect of design and construction work as required by the project to meet current legislation.
* Co-ordinate with Clients, other professions and members of the Projects and Maintenance Teams, ensuring specification for each design package is package and project specific.
* Follow all project processes and protocols including, change control, RFI’s and technical submittals.
* Ensure CDM design risk reviews and resultant actions are implemented.
* As required, conduct and/or attend regular design team meetings to address and resolve issues.
* Producing, reviewing, verifying and approving calculations, analyses, drawings, models, design basis documentation and technical reports.
* Ensuring that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel.
* Assessing and approving design changes concessions and technical queries.
* Establishing, leading and maintaining the engineering configuration, ensuring that the overall Design Intent and integrity is maintained throughout design development and subsequent changes.
* Presenting designs for Hazard Identification (HAZID) and contributing to Hazard Operability (HAZOP) studies.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains through digital technologies.
* Oversee the implementation of quality assurance and control measures to verify the accuracy and reliability of the technical systems and processes.
* Co-ordinate with all Projects stakeholders to ensure that the client brief is met and is compliant.
* Facilitating collaboration and decision-making meetings to resolve conflicts in a timely manner.
* Use memberships and access to web resources for regular updates on relevant industry information, and best practice.
* Reviewing industry best practice for implementation.
Pre-Construction Phase
* Lead and manage internal designs in the production of bids and tenders, designs from concept to tender handover as appropriate.
* Review of Employers and any stakeholder/third party requirements.
* Undertake scope gap analysis / risks and opportunities / VE etc.
* Leading and providing peer assistance of bids, tasks, designs or projects.
* Carry out a tender document review of all available documentation and produce conclusions report with actions and recommendations.
* Technically review tender responses and comment as appropriate.Consider alternative strategies as may provide a competitive advantage/alternative.
* Review information produced by tendering Sub-contractor for compliance and cost-effective solution.
* Support in the identification of design qualifications and/or clarifications, which are to be entered into our tender submission.
* Support in the preparation of the “Contractor’s Proposals” with the production of the technical sections for submission.
* Assist the Technical and Pre-Construction Directors in the production of Electrical discipline related fee requirements for internally and externally designed projects.
Design Phases (Stages 1-6)
* Produce and develop internal designs for electrical services.
* Conduct independent design/technical reviews of both internal and external designs, for technical accuracy and ensure it represent best value in accordance with environmental, legal, and contracted requirements.
* Monitor and comment on the consultant/designers’ incoming designs and information quality as required on individual projects.
* Assist the Technical and Pre-construction Director in the appointment of designers and the production of design fees ensuring that the scope, deliverables, responsibilities, and duties, meet the project requirements.
* Technically review and consider Consultant design aspects of potential VE, bearing in mind, safety in design, buildability, programme, cost constraints and project Risk & Opportunities.
Construction Phase
* Technically review and consider Contractor Design Portions design proposals.
* Participate in buildability reviews to enable improved project outcomes.
* Conduct reviews, assessments, and site surveys to identify technical progress and confirm compliance with specifications and requirements, making recommendations as necessary.
* Monitor and comment on the CDP sub-contractors’ work quality with respect to the electrical designs as required on individual projects.
* Liaise with the construction supervisor during the installation/commissioning phases of the project and assist in construction supervision when required.
* Maintain regular dialogue and collaboration with the HSEQ Department to act on recommendations and statutory requirements to enforce compliance with relevant statutory bodies such as the Health & Safety Executive, Environmental Agencies, etc.
* Apply current legislation regarding building regulations, standards, CDM, Building Safety Act, quality control, safety & environmental issues relating to our construction activities.
Handover Phase
* Support in the discharge of Employer design acceptance, and any relevant Regulatory and Legislative design obligations.
* Support the Handover documentation manager to review and comment on proposed O&M manuals.
* Review the design for compliance with relevant data protection regulations and security protocols.
The duties listed are not exhaustive and may be varied from time to time as dictated by the changing needs of the Company. The post holder will be expected to undertake other duties as appropriate and as requested by his/her manager.
The post holder may be required to work at any of the locations at which the business of Sweet Projects is conducted.
