Overview
To provide insightful financial leadership, robust challenge and decision support to the Commercial and Marketing functions, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and commercial activity delivers sustainable value. Acting as a trusted adviser, the role combines deep financial understanding with commercial insight to influence strategy, optimise investment decisions and drive improvements in volume, margin and return on investment across the business.
Through high‑quality analysis, modelling and performance reporting, the role translates complex financial information into clear, actionable insight for senior stakeholders. It plays a pivotal role in shaping commercial plans, evaluating opportunities and risks, maintaining strong financial control, and embedding a culture of accountability and value creation, while enabling the business to respond at pace in a fast‑changing commercial environment.
Responsibilities
* Greene King’s brand and marketing activities are evolving fast as we move to new ways of attracting and maintaining customers. This role will evolve alongside the group’s commercial offer, so it is essential that the role holder can accept and manage change. This will be a fast‑paced environment with a high degree of variability.
* Whilst this role will specialise in an area of Greene King’s commercial offering, it will be important to have an awareness of the entire commercial ecosystem.
* Relationships and influencing.
* Business partnering with an element of the Commercial function, combining support with challenge as appropriate. This will mean developing first‑rate relationships with key stakeholders and building trust such that your opinion is valued and you bring real credibility to challenge.
* It is expected that the role holder makes commercial recommendations based on evidence and experience, having a real impact on the profitability and cash flow of Greene King. You will need to use influence to shape decision making and have a core focus on critical evaluation. This is not a passive role.
* Build relationships across the Commercial and Finance functions, and also with key external consultants and partners, holding them to account in the same way as internal stakeholders.
* Prioritise workload based on commerciality and be comfortable with not being able to meet all requests.
* Data, insight and reporting.
* Producing first‑rate commercial analysis which will be clear, concise and insight‑focused. The role holder will be expected to add to collective responsibility for the entire Commercial Finance team’s analysis and reporting environment, constantly striving for improved quality.
* Alongside analysis this role will need to support with an element of regular reporting, developing first‑class reporting solutions and looking for ways to make them more efficient.
* Modelling of scenarios, working with key stakeholders, and production of honest and comprehensive post‑investment appraisal with an outcome focus.
* Comfortable with both financial and non‑financial inputs to draw conclusions.
* Financial control.
* Responsibility for production of budgets, forecasts and strategic plans (together “financial plans”) or parts thereof for areas of Greene King’s Commercial offering. This is likely to include collective responsibility for areas of financial plans alongside peers.
* Take responsibility for key processes such as menu or business case sign‑off and post‑investment review, producing relevant governance submissions.
* Deputise as required for peers or line managers.
* Have a service‑centric mindset, prioritising our ultimate and immediate customers.
* Take responsibility for personal development and collective responsibility for the development of the Commercial Finance team, in particular Analysts.
* Prioritise workload based on the commercial impact. Constantly review priorities to ensure they align with the business.

Qualifications
* Qualified accountant with significant post‑qualification experience (3y+) or significant experience in a business‑facing business partnering role.
* Experience in large dataset management and visualisation.
* Experience in measuring marketing activity and managing performance thereof.
* Change management experience and experience operating in a fast changing environment. Ability to flex with changing priorities.
* A strong communicator, capable of building authentic and trust‑based relationships at all levels internally and externally.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, able to explain and present technical items in simple ways.
