About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a new and expanding 11–16 secondary school, currently in the early stages of its development. This is an exciting opportunity to join a school at a formative point and play a key role in shaping its curriculum, culture, and academic identity.
The school is seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Head of Geography to lead the creation and implementation of a rigorous, knowledge‑rich Geography curriculum and to establish a strong departmental vision from the outset.

The Role: Head of Geography
As Head of Geography, you will be responsible for building the department from the ground up—designing curriculum, shaping pedagogy, developing resources, and establishing high expectations for teaching and learning.
As one of the school’s early subject leaders, this role offers significant professional autonomy and the opportunity to leave a lasting imprint on curriculum design and departmental culture as the school grows.

What You Will Do
* Lead the design of a coherent, knowledge‑rich Geography curriculum that develops strong substantive and disciplinary knowledge
* Establish, model, and maintain high expectations for teaching, learning, and assessment
* Shape the long‑term vision, ethos, and identity of Geography within the school
* Mentor, support, and develop colleagues as the department grows
* Contribute to recruitment, induction, and professional development of future team members
* Create high‑quality resources, fieldwork opportunities, and enrichment that foster curiosity about the world
* Ensure Geography is an intellectually ambitious, engaging, and rigorous subject for all learners

* A passionate geographer with excellent subject knowledge and experience of knowledge‑rich curriculum design
* Secure understanding of powerful geographical knowledge, including place, process, and key concepts
* A reflective practitioner with strong pedagogical expertise
* Ability to coach, mentor, and develop colleagues effectively
* Experience leading or contributing to high‑quality KS3 provision (KS4/KS5 experience advantageous as the school grows)
* Enthusiasm for establishing a new department within a developing school
