Consultant in GU/GU Oncology/Gynaecology

Requiredto fill this new post within the Radiology Department at the Leeds GeneralInfirmary/St Jamess University Hospital.

Thereis an opportunity for an experienced consultant radiologist or enthusiasticpost CCST trainee to join the genitourinary/ genitourinary oncology radiologyteam. This substantive post cover involves cross sectional cancer imaging,mainly genitourinary, oncology (gynaecology oncology essential), gynaecologyoncology/benign MRI, plain film and acute CT.

Thispost will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Radiology team with on call 1 in 12Diagnostic on call. The candidate must be post CCST (or equivalent) and haveexperience in genitourinary and oncological cross-sectional reporting andextensive experience in genitourinary radiology to deliver services, includingexperience in early pregnancy, endometriosis and placenta imaging.

Thesuccessful applicant should hold accreditation from the Royal College ofRadiologists (FRCR or equivalent), full registration with GMC and have theright to work in UK.


Main duties of the job

Thesuccessful applicant should possess FRCR and should be included on theSpecialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, ifcurrently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.

Applicants should haveestablished skills in GU, GU oncology/gynaecology and its related specialtiesincluding gynaecology (benign and malignant), early pregnancy and placentaimaging. A strong commitment toundergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Job responsibilities

In relation to this post, the new appointee will help create a platform tobuild a strong portfolio of specialist work at a national and regional leveland provide seamless integrated care to local patients and beyond with the GUservice partaking in the acute and superspecialist work of the departmentinvolving gynaecology, early pregnancy imaging and placenta work. The new postwill allow the team to develop the service further to provide cost savings anda better tertiary service to the patients of Yorkshire.

2. OBJECTIVESOF THE POST

The post in GU radiology is required to meet increasing demand on the GU andAcute Radiology services and to replace service due to retirement and willincrease cold reporting capacity, improve provision of acute services andsupport the regional tertiary level GU cancer MDTs of note gynaecology.

The appointee will be required to contribute to the existing diagnosticGU radiology workload and MDT commitment, including the regional gynaecologicaland haematological MDT.

The job plan will be subject to review according to the successful applicants training and skills.

The successful candidate will participate in a 1:12 diagnostic on-callrota (split weekends). They will also be required to contribute to extended dayworking in support of the acute CT on call services. The details of thesesessions will be determined at job planning.

Overview of Radiology in LTHT

The LTHT radiology department is one of the largest inEurope and has an established reputation for clinical innovation and expertisealong with a significant teaching and research profile. The department contains one of three nationalradiology training academies with associated educational facilities andresources for the Leeds Bradford Radiology training scheme. In terms of research the department hashelped establish a NIHR funded research 3T MRI as part of the Leeds BiomedicalResearch Unit contained on trust premises.Within this unit imaging plays a large part in most musculoskeletalprojects along with performance of separate radiology specific research.

Recently thedepartment has also been successful in obtaining funding for developing and establishing an academicprogramme focusing on oncology radiologyled by a Professor of Radiology.

The University of Leeds is a major partner in both ofthese research streams and is looking to expand the latter with specificacademic radiology appointments. Interms of University honoraryappointments radiology consultants have formed a large proportion of therecently created Honorary Clinical Associate Professor positions.

Research and Education are priorities for the Trust andany new radiology consultant appointed will have the opportunity to explorefurthering research and educational possibilities when in post if they wish


Person Specification


Training, Research & Teaching

* Should have completed a recognised training programme in GU Radiology/Oncology Radiology or evidence of Fellowship in GU Radiology with subspecialty Gynaecology interest.
* Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research. Would be beneficial but not necessary.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
* Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
* Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.


Experience

* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in GU Oncology/Benign (Gynaecology) and support acute CT.
* Specifically, must demonstrate higher training in Oncology MDT including Gynaecology MDT, Benign gynaecology work (any obstetric training US and MRI would be beneficial but not necessary), reporting of relevant imaging to GU Oncology/Benign.
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

* Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
* *Well organised and skilled in good time management.
* *Effective interpersonal skills.
* *Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.
* -Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
* -Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via:
* -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview). Portfolio Pathway (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process. Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the relevant Specialist Register at the time of application.
* Attendance at recognised management course.


Qualifications

* Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
* YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
