GDS Content Designer - Inside IR35 - £500 per day
We're an independent digital transformation consultancy with clients across public and private sectors. We help our clients solve complex technical problems and provide human-centred solutions that lead to positive outcomes. We do this with multidisciplinary teams of strategists, architects, developers, designers and analysts working closely alongside client stakeholders and end users.
The Project
A Public Sector department has successfully built a Core Data Platform infrastructure. We are now establishing a high-impact Enabling Team to act as an internal consulting function. This multi-disciplinary team is tasked with driving the adoption and value realisation of the platform across the department.
As a Content Designer within this team, you will focus on integrating the platform with existing business processes to solve high-value data challenges. Your work will bridge the gap between complex data infrastructure and the people who need to use it.
The Role
You will be responsible for defining how we communicate data insights and platform value. This isn't just about "writing"; it's about designing the logic and flow of information to help the department make better, data-driven decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Discovery & Strategy: Understand user needs and pain points to create a content strategy that aligns with 2026 change goals.
* Evidence-Based Design: Create, test, and iterate content based on user research, data gaps, and service performance.
* End-to-End Integration: Collaborate with User Researchers, Product Managers, and Policy leads to ensure content is baked into the service design from the start.
* Governance & Standards: Manage content life cycles and approvals across complex data services, ensuring all output meets the Government Service Standard.
* Performance Tracking: Use metrics (task completion, error rates, drop-offs) to prove the effectiveness of your content and drive continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Government Service Standard: Deep experience working within GDS principles, particularly in designing clear, accessible, and user-centred content.
* Digital Service Design: A proven track record of designing content for transactional services, complex guidance, and specifically data-driven services.
* Accessibility & Inclusion: Expert knowledge of WCAG compliance, plain English principles, and readability standards.
Technical & Strategic
* Strategy Development: Ability to maintain a content strategy across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live phases.
* Data Interrogation: Comfortable working alongside technical teams to understand data gaps and translate them into actionable user content.
* Stakeholder Management: Confident in navigating content governance and version control within a multi-disciplinary environment.
