Under the direction of the Head Teacher, the Janitor will be responsible for:
1. The security of the premises and its contents, including the operation of fire and security systems and keyholding responsibilities. This will involve patrolling all areas of the premises and playgrounds.
2. The lighting and heating within the premises, including maintenance and operation of heating plant where required, replacing light bulbs and tubes, etc.
3. Scheduling maintenance and alarm checks, taking into account school activities, at least a term in advance.
4. Porterage duties including storekeeping.
5. Handyperson duties including carrying out minor repairs to fabric and furnishings within the buildings. This also includes grass cutting duties and some grounds maintenance. In winter, the gritting and clearing of paths and steps to ensure general safety around the school grounds.
6. Undertaking initial checks or inspections and identifying major repair works required and reporting these to the Head Teacher.

Scalloway Primary School is a non-denominational school located in the village of Scalloway, 7 miles from Lerwick. The school's catchment area includes Scalloway, Trondra, and the Tingwall Valley as far north as Griesta.
There are 7 classes in the Primary Department and a large Early Years and Childcare Department (delivering up to 30 hours per week). The school has a total of 175 pupils on the school and ELC roll combined. Secondary education for years S1-S6 is provided at the Anderson High School in Lerwick. The school canteen is onsite providing hot and cold meals daily.
Adjacent to the Primary School and ELC are Hame fae Hame (Childcare provision) and the Health Centre. The school makes use of the Games hall and swimming pool facilities situated next door.
The school is managed by the Head Teacher (Mrs. Morag Fox) and two Principal Teachers. The current teaching staff comprises 5 full-time class teachers and 2 job-shares. PE, Art, and Music are provided by peripatetic specialists with a range of instrumental instruction timetabled for P5-7 pupils. Further support is provided by our Support for Learning teachers where appropriate. A team of Learning Support Workers complements the role of the SfL teachers to meet the needs of all pupils.
