About the Job:
To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The post will include some administrative duties. The HCA is responsible for seeing patients with booked appointments for clinical procedures. The healthcare assistant will use own judgement and communication skills to ensure those patients with no prior appointment that need urgent consultation will be seen in a non-distruptive manner. Will liaise closely with all levels within the teams.
Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
* Undertake new patient health checks.
* Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.
* Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
* Carry out compression bandaging.
* Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
* Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
* Carry out BMI checks as directed.
* Act as a chaperone as required.
* Administer flu vaccinations.
* Phlebotomy.
* A duty to advise Practice nurse lead/managers of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks.
* Attend and participate in any practice meetings and TARGET training when required.

To assist the GPs and practice nurse team in the service and delivery of the care management of the practice population. Responsible to: Senior practice nurses, practice manager and, ultimately, the GP Partners.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4)
* Qualified in Phlebotomy
* Qualified in Compression Dressing
* Qualified in Immunisation and vaccinations (competencies within role)
Experience
Essential
* Experience of working in a primary care environment
* Experience of working with Emis Web
* Experience of working with the general public
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
