Deputy Laboratory Manager UKAbout the PositionDeputy Laboratory Manager will work at the ALS Prescot Site. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager UK, the Deputy Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the management, quality and operational performance of the UK analytical laboratory when the laboratory manager is absent. Encompassing all services, operations, processes and controls from sample receipt through to the approval stage within the Analytical Services function to deliver profitable, efficient and highly accurate laboratory services.Basis: Full Time, Monday to Friday, Working hours TBC. Have a minimum of 10 years’ experience within the metals and minerals industry Minimum of 3 years working at senior management levelAble to liaise professionally at ALL levels with internal and external customersAble to deliver overall and individual commodity analysis servicesGood commercial understanding and appreciation of factors involved in delivery quality services profitablyGood understanding of quality of service and appreciation of factors involved in delivery a quality serviceCompetence with standard Microsoft software packages and well-practiced in preparing Management information and reportsWorking knowledge of analysis commodity sectors (minerals and metals)Working knowledge of quality services and the factors involved in delivering a quality service to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standardsWorking knowledge of profit & loss systems and the factors involved in delivery a profitable service.Prior management and commercial experienceProfessional or academic understanding of science ideally in a scientific disciplineWorking knowledge of LIMS (Laboratory Information and Management System)Sufficient technical understanding and awareness of laboratory services to be able to communicate technical solutions and methods to reflect best practicePosition duties Strategic business contribution, planning, and execution within the ALS Inspection Division.Delivery of ALS Inspection UK business objectives and targets in cooperation with Finance – Commercial – Inspection – Assay Customer Services departments- Quality.Aid in the allocation of work to laboratory team according to their competence and skill set, knowledge, availability of equipment and customer requirements.Monitor and aid delivery of Key Performance Indicators and targets; liaise with all departments with a view to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the processes involved. Work directly with departmental laboratory managers as required to maintain and monitor quality, TAT and productivity.Take part in and contribute to on-going development programmes for areas of responsibility to continuously improve efficiency and effectiveness of the Laboratory.Work directly with departmental laboratory managers to plan workflow, and resolve any technical, personnel, or quality issues.Undertake other line management responsibilities as required and in accordance with the seniority of the position. Responsible for quality of results and laboratory service provision.Delivery of customer requirements within required specification and time frame.Attend client meetings when requested and respond to clients queries within authorised parameters in a timely manner.Escalate client issues as appropriate. Complaint and dispute investigation and resolution.To manage and ensure compliance with the clauses of the accreditation standards, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017.To participate where required in UKAS/ISO audits of the Quality Management System.Assist implementation of effective corrective actions to any non-conformances raised.Technical consultancy as required either within the laboratory, to ALS satellite laboratories or for external customers.Aid in the recruitment, training and development of the laboratory team to maintain optimum levels of laboratory workforce and skills across all departments to meet the business needs.Evaluate and improve the Laboratory department’s skills using performance reviews and monitoring training plans in conjunction with HR Manager, Technical Manager and Laboratory departmental managers.
