Job Summary
Deputy Head of Occupational Health & Wellbeing – clinical leader responsible for day‑to‑day delivery of occupational health services, influencing Trustwide decisions, driving innovation, and championing person‑centred care. The role involves managing complex clinical caseloads, shaping strategy, ensuring compliance with SEQOHS, FOM standards and national guidance, and supporting the Head of Service as a deputy and line manager.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical and professional leadership to the occupational health team, embedding core competencies and promoting evidence‑based practice.
* Manage a complex caseload (approx. 50% of time), including complex case management, written instructions, medication monitoring and SEQOHS compliance.
* Lead and support audits, develop clinical protocols and procedures, and maintain high standards in line with FOM guidance and SEQOHS.
* Represent the department at key meetings, deputise the Head of Service, and oversee line management responsibilities.
* Offer strategic advice on occupational health and staff wellbeing to internal and external management.
* Champion continuous improvement, including risk management, incident reporting, and quality development.
* Support staff development, training, and coaching across the multidisciplinary team.
* Collaborate with Infection Control, Health & Safety, and operational management to provide expert occupational health opinions.
* Contribute to budget management, resource planning, and signatory duties for authorised expenditures.
* Promote and uphold the Trust’s values, policies, and statutory duties, including safeguarding, equality, data protection, and health & safety.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications
* Current registration as a Registered Nurse.
* Post‑graduate diploma or degree in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing – Occupational Health Nursing or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
* Master’s or Advanced Clinical Practitioner in OH or relevant subject.
* Teaching qualification.
Essential Experience
* Extensive post‑registration experience in an occupational health setting at a senior level.
* Experience working autonomously as a clinical practitioner in a nurse‑led service.
* Evidence of audit and evidence‑based care.
* Demonstrated effective leadership within collaborative multidisciplinary team working.
* High-level numerical and analytical skills, including spreadsheets and databases.
Desirable Experience
* Effective staff engagement and management experience.
* Experience managing staff within an NHS health & wellbeing setting.
Essential Training
* CPD evidence at specialist/senior level within occupational health.
* Further specialist training or qualifications relevant to the role.
Special Knowledge/Skills
* Understanding of information governance and confidentiality.
* Comprehensive knowledge of national guidance (FOM, Green Book, NICE).
* Advanced clinical assessment, problem‑solving, and reasoning skills.
* Ability to manage time and workload effectively in a high‑pressure environment.
* Strong communication, leadership, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution abilities.
* IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
