Locum Agricultural Property Solicitor
A national membership organisation is seeking a Locum Solicitor to provide short‑term cover within its advisory team. The environment is friendly and low‑pressure, with a focus on advising members rather than acting for them.
The organisation is flexible and can shape the caseload around your experience. Agricultural law, rural property, and tenancy backgrounds are all suitable.
Expected duration: 1 month
Hours: 3-4 days per week
Start date: ASAP
Location: Hybrid or remote, with 1-2 days in London for induction
Role overview
You will provide initial legal advice to members on agricultural, property, and tenancy matters. You will also contribute to policy work and help represent member interests to government and sector bodies.
Key responsibilities
Member advice
* Provide clear, practical guidance on agricultural and property‑related issues
* Deliver advice verbally or in writing and record it in the CRM system
* Expand into related areas with support where needed
* Contribute to written guidance, blogs, or articles
Policy work
* Support the development of policy positions on agricultural and tenancy issues
* Gather evidence from member enquiries, committees, surveys, and working groups
* Contribute to consultation responses and briefings for government stakeholders
* Represent the organisation in meetings with officials, politicians, and sector groups when required
Person specification
* Solicitor or equivalent qualification (England & Wales)
* Experience in agricultural law, rural property, or agricultural tenancy
* Strong communication skills and ability to explain legal issues clearly
* Confident researching unfamiliar areas; access to LexisNexis is provided
* Understanding of policy development is desirable
* Understanding of issues affecting rural landowners and rural businesses is desirable
Interpersonal skills
* Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of members
* Able to build relationships with external stakeholders
* Strong written and verbal advocacy skills
