This is an exciting opportunity to join our welcoming and friendly team within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Department of Medicine. The Acute Medical Unit (previously known as the Combined Assessment Unit) is located in the state-of-the-art new Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI) which opened in December 2017.
Applications for permanent and fixed term (12 months) employment are welcome, along with General Medicine Consultants with a special interest in Acute Medicine are also welcome to apply.
The successful applicant will join a team of Acute and General Medical Consultants providing senior presence and clinical leadership within the AMU. This will involve post-take ward rounds, rolling reviews of new incoming patients (including those eligible for Same Day Emergency Care), incorporating support and teaching for junior colleagues and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
The wider MDT is an essential part of the AMU, represented by Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Frailty Team and Social work on a daily basis and so post-holders are required to work together with these teams and communicate at twice-daily meetings to progress patient care and facilitate early discharge.
The post holder will also be a key part of educating and training the next generation of Medical Students from ScotGEM as well as both Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
There will be an opportunity to maintain or develop an existing specialty interest or special skill as split working subject to negotiation and local service needs. Local interests include education, point of care ultrasound and infection control and prevention/antibiotic stewardship.
The job plan, an example of which is below, is subject to annual review, contains 10PAs, with scope to incorporate SPAs depending upon the time required to support negotiated professional activities.
