Consultant Urological Surgeon - Pelvic Oncology

A whole-time post as Consultant in Urology is available at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a new post and will be based at the Churchill Hospital. The appointment is on a whole-time basis, but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share. We seek to appoint a Urological Surgeon to undertake cystectomy and robotic prostatectomy, deliver complex pelvic oncology surgery, and join the bladder cancer team. Experience in major pelvic oncology including cystectomy is essential, and experience in robotic surgery is desirable.

Main duties of the job

The post holder duties will be at the Churchill hospital but presence will be required in other parts of the Trust including the John Radcliffe and Horton Hospital. The clinical work will include major pelvic oncology, with a particular focused subspecialty interest in bladder cancer, including delivery of a cystectomy service, along with all other aspects of major pelvic oncology.

The post holder will join the consultant emergency on call rota on a 1 in 10 basis. The service is a 24/7 emergency adult urology service, including cover of our urology triage area and all aspects of emergency general urology including major trauma. Elective commitments are cancelled during the on call week, and there is a middle grade (SpR or Fellow) on call both day and night and at weekends.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* FRCS (urol.) or equivalent CCT in Urology; or Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Urology; or within six months of achieving CCST at the time of interview.
* Higher medical degree


Experience

* General training in Urology to specialist level or equivalent
* Ability to make decisions at consultant level


Skills and Knowledge

* Sufficient leadership within an organisational and knowledge of national access targets
* Communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant in Urology in a large teaching hospital.
* Good personal and interpersonal skills / Good spoken and written English Communication skills should be highly developed.
* Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees
* Experience of routine clinical audit
* Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS and Government's agenda for its modernisation.
* Management training and experience

* GMC Registration - Full
* Transport- Driving License
