About the role
As Logistics Team Leader, you'll be at the heart of our operations - leading a team responsible for the efficient and safe transport of donated goods across the area and its network of stores. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong people & communication skills, logistical know-how, and a commitment to excellence.
You'll manage daily scheduling and staff rostering, oversee vehicle maintenance, and ensure your team delivers exceptional service. Daily manual handling is involved, so you need to be physically fit and be a quick, practical thinker with sound judgement.
Key responsibilities
4. Lead and inspire a team of staff and volunteers, fostering a positive, high-performing culture.
5. Plan and optimise daily routes to meet collection and delivery targets efficiently.
6. Ensure safety and care in loading, unloading, and transporting goods.
7. Represent the Family Stores with professionalism and courtesy on the road and in customer interactions.
8. Maintain fleet standards, ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy and compliant.
9. Communicate clearly with customers and team members, both in person and over the phone.
10. Run effective team meetings, setting clear expectations and encouraging feedback.
11. Ensure compliance with health and safety, HR, and audit requirements.
12. Handle administrative tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
What we are looking for
13. Proven experience in logistics, transport, or operations leadership.
14. A natural leader with a hands-on, supportive style and the ability to motivate diverse teams.
15. Strong communication skills are essential.
16. A full, clean NZ driver's licence (Class 1) and confidence driving small trucks (manual and auto).
17. Physically fit and comfortable with regular lifting and manual handling.
18. Tech-savvy and confident using retail, navigation, and communication tools.
19. Strong judgement, reliability, and a commitment to ethical, respectful work.
20. Alignment with the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
21. Legal right to work in New Zealand and able to pass a Ministry of Justice clearance.

Hours of work: These roles are Permanent, 40 hours per week across Monday to Saturday on a rostered basis. Please note, Family stores operate on some public holidays.
The starting salary will fall between $68,850 and $71,877 per annum - dependent on skills and experience.
