1. Job Purpose

To do the laundry for residents own clothing and for bed linen, curtains and other washable furnishings as instructed, in order to maintain satisfactory standards of comfort, dignity, hygiene and cleanliness for residents and in the home generally.

2. Main duties and responsibilities

(a) To launder, dry, iron and air residents clothing as instructed and in accordance with the washing instructions on individual garments, using equipment and materials provided.

(b) To launder, dry, iron, air bed linen, curtains and other washable furnishings as instructed and in accordance with the washing instructions on individual items, using equipment and material provided.

(c) To maintain high standards of comfort, dignity, cleanliness and hygiene for residents personal clothing at all times, ensuring that all stains are removed in the laundering process and that residents receive their own clothes back in their bedrooms.

(d) To ensure that all bed linen is washed thoroughly, separating soiled linen from other washing and maintaining safe standards and hygienic practices at all times.

(e) To use all laundry materials and equipment as instructed and in accordance with safe practices.

(f) To ensure the safe and secure storage of all laundry equipment and cleaning materials at all times.

(g) To assist as required with the ordering and purchase of cleaning materials and checking stocks.

(h) To carry out special laundering as required and as instructed.

3. Staff development, training and supervision

(a) To work under the supervision and direction of the Manager or the Senior Nursing Staff on duty.

(b) To participate in a review of own personal development and training needs, at least once a year and to attend appropriate training courses as required by the Manager or the Proprietors.

4. General responsibilities

(a) To maintain safe and hygienic systems and practices in the handling and laundering of all items for washing at all times and in accordance with statutory requirements and The Home's Home Policies and Procedures.

(b) To be alert to and report any potentially dangerous situations or accidents to the Manager or the Senior Nursing Staff on duty.

(c) To maintain records as instructed.

(d) To read, understand and carry out The Home's Policies and Procedures.

(e) To advise the Manager, Senior Nursing Staff on duty or the Proprietor of any incidents affecting the safety and welfare of the residents.

(f) To respect the individuality and right to privacy of all residents at all times and to seek advice from the Manager or the Senior Nursing Staff on duty about any concerns regarding residents personal belongings, behaviour or hygiene.

This Job Description sets out the main duties and responsibilities of the Laundry role but is not intended to cover all possible duties and functions of the Postholder who may be required to carry out such other duties and responsibilities as are commensurate with this appointment.

Domestic

Accountable to: Registered Manager or Senior Nursing Staff on Duty

Job Purpose: To carry out cleaning and related domestic duties in resident's bedrooms and the communal areas of the Home in order to maintain satisfactory standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the home. To assist with the feeding of residents at mealtimes.

1. Main duties and responsibilities

(a) To clean resident's bedrooms as instructed using equipment and materials provided. Cleaning includes vacuuming floors, dusting and cleaning ornaments – moving them to clean surfaces, dusting and cleaning furniture and emptying paper waste bins. Thorough cleaning to be completed once every two weeks on a rota basis in all resident's rooms.

(b) To clean communal areas including bathrooms and toilets as instructed using equipment and materials provided. Clinical waste to be moved in yellow bags from sluice bins to the external storage bins for collection by waste disposal contractors.

(c) To clean public areas of the Home (hall, lounges, dining room, staircase, lift etc.) by vacuuming floors and including high dusting and washing down paintwork. Spot cleaning of carpets to be carried out when necessary.

(d) To maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the Home and to report any concerns about the state of cleanliness or hygiene including unpleasant smells, from furniture, furnishings, carpets and floor coverings, residents clothing or laundry, to the Senior Nursing staff on duty or to the Director.

(e) To check all toilets daily and ensure that spare toilet rolls, clean hand towels and hand washing soap are available in each toilet.

(f) To use all materials and equipment as instructed and in accordance with safe and hygienic practices (see Training Notes on the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health COSHH and Health & Safety at Work).

(g) To ensure the safe and secure storage of all equipment and cleaning materials at all times.

(h) To assist as required with the ordering and purchase of cleaning materials and checking stocks and to keep records as required and instructed.

(i) To carry out special deep cleaning as required and as instructed.

(j) To assist with laundry duties as required and operate laundry equipment as instructed.

(k) To assist at mealtimes with the feeding of residents.

(c) To maintain records as instructed.

(e) To advise the Manager, Senior Nursing Staff on duty or the Director of any incidents affecting the safety and welfare of the residents.

(f) To respect the individuality and right to privacy of all residents at all times and to seek advice from the Manager or the Senior Nursing Staff on duty about any concerns regarding residents personal belongings, behaviour or hygiene.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £12.25-£12.35 per hour
