Key Duties and Responsibilities
Work as part of a squad, following instruction from the site Foreman, to carry out all works associated with the construction/refurbishment of overhead lines including:
* Assembly and erection of steel towers and wood poles
* Stringing, tensioning, sagging, jointing, clamping and making of all types of overhead conductors and making of stay wires
* Installation of all types of insulators and overhead line equipment
Additional duties:
* Assist in supervising, training and coaching new and inexperienced staff members, remaining alert to their actions and making them aware of any hazards
* Comply with NorPower’s policies, taking responsibility for your own actions, in order to assist the Company in meeting its aims and objectives as applicable to your role
* Participate in risk assessments and carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner in accordance with instructions, and comply with safety & environmental rules/procedures, applicable regulations and codes of practice
* Safe use and storage of all equipment and tools provided by the company in accordance with training/authorisation
Key Competencies
Essential
o Experience in all tasks associated with the construction/refurbishment of overhead lines – both wood pole and steel tower
o Competent in working at height using permanent attachment techniques
o Ability to follow both written and verbal instruction
o Ability to work as part of a team
o Sound awareness of the consequences of not following work practices/method statements
Desirable
o Experience of carrying out risk assessments
o Experience in the safe operation and use of plant/machinery where applicable
o Experience in completing site records
o Hold relevant Client authorisations
o Hold an appropriate certificate in H&S training e.g. IOSH Working Safely
o First Aid Certificate
o Training in: Manual handling, COSHH, Vehicle/machine banksman, Behavioural Safety, Rescue from structures, MEWP, Telehandler, Hagglund
o Full driving license
