Commercial Manager (Energy Networks)

As our team continues to grow, we are looking for a Commercial Manager to join our Energy Networks Divisional Commercial Management team. This role contributes to high profile Electricity Transmission and Distribution projects, playing a key role in their commercial success. You will be part of a forward‑thinking and inclusive team, helping to shape project initiatives while growing your career in an organisation that prioritises professional development and growth.


Key responsibilities and duties

* Provide strategic commercial input to Account Leaders and Bid Teams on specific bids and projects while supporting the Commercial Manager on broader commercial matters.
* Provide support and advice related to group governance, particularly as regards commercial aspects.
* Provide guidance and direction on commercial risk management while identifying opportunities through strong commercial bidding and project management, ensuring compliance with company policies and directives.
* Assist the Divisional Commercial Manager in ensuring that we are delivering commercially robust proposals through application of our business management systems, a customer focused approach and appropriate innovation in delivery.
* Review contracts with suppliers and subconsultants.
* Liaise with Company Legal advisors on legal and commercial contract matters.
* Participate in contract negotiations, supporting project teams in understanding key issues and securing sound and equitable commercial outcomes.
* Support project and bid teams with submissions for approval of special commitments related to contract and project risk.

* Ensure that appropriate agreements with third parties are in place, including sub‑consultant organisations and strategic and JV partners.
* Support project teams to manage budgets in order to deliver acceptable cash flow and project profit.
* Provide support on how claims/variations should be prepared, presented and negotiated with the customer.
* Support the commercial team to put in place appropriate guidance, training and knowledge sharing.


Candidate specification

* General experience / understanding of commercial and contractual matters in a consultancy and/or contracting environment.
* Proven ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, working collaboratively across teams, including project professionals, business partners, and clients.
* Strong leadership and influencing skills with the ability to set the standard and lead by example.
* A track record of ensuring robust commercial governance throughout both bid management and project delivery phases.
* Understanding and experience in review of contracts, specifically in relation to consultancy services and understanding the relevant issues and solutions would be advantageous.
* High level knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts would be advantageous.


Additional role information

This is an intended hybrid role, working both in the “WIN” and “DO” stages of projects. Both supporting the commercial aspects of tenders and projects to provide a broad range of experience. There may be a greater focus initially on the tender stage.
