About The Role
Sunbelt Rentals is looking to recruit a Data Protection Advisor to assist the Data Protection Officer (DPO) in meeting its obligations under applicable data protection law, including, the European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR). Reporting to the UK General Counsel, the Data Protection Advisor will assist in monitoring compliance and data protection practices internally to ensure the business, and its functions comply with the applicable requirements under data protection law.
The Data Protection Advisor will be a member of the Legal Team and will also assist the team with administration tasks.
This is a hybrid role and will be based in Warrington for a minimum of 2 days per week.
You will be a member of the Legal Team and responsible for:
Ensuring the Legal Inbox is monitored throughout the day and the Legal Planner is duly updated
Providing timely administration support to the Legal Team to ensure timescales/deadlines are met
Carrying out any other reasonable duties, tasks or responsibilities as directed to support the effective operation of the Legal Team.
Providing day-to-day data protection advice to business stakeholders
Conducting privacy Risk Assessments (DPIAs, LIAs, TIAs)
Maintaining and enhancing the Records of Processing Activities (RoPA)
Monitoring compliance with internal data protection policies
Ensuring privacy notices and internal policies remain accurate and up to date
Supporting implementation of privacy by design and default across projects
Conducting initial breach assessments and support investigations
Maintaining breach logs and preparing documentation for regulatory reporting
coordinating internal and external audits

What you will need to bring to the role from day one:
Law degree/certificate from an accredited higher education institution (essential).
Professional Data Protection and/or Privacy certification such as, CIPP/E, CIPT, ISEB, etc., (desirable).
Strong knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018
Experience in a compliance, legal, or risk-related role
Experience managing DSARs and handling data incidents
Experience conducting DPIAs, LIAs, TIAs independently
Understanding of data governance and information security principles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to interpret legislation and apply it practically
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
