Critical Care Nurse - Bedford Hospital
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, experienced, motivated, approachable, and reliable nurse to work in Critical Care at Bedford Hospital. Our adult Critical Care service provides integrated Level 1, 2, and 3 care, with 6 Level 3 and 4 Level 2 beds in a purpose-built unit, and a 24/7 Level 1 service.
The post holder will assist the Critical Care Matron in managing Critical Care services, ensuring high standards in the assessment of care needs, development, implementation, and evaluation of care programs. Responsibilities include providing leadership, role modeling professional practice, maintaining a safe environment, and supervising and teaching nursing and non-nursing staff. The post involves taking charge of the unit in the absence of the designated nurse.
Applicants should have substantial experience in a ward or acute setting, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage complex problems and conflicting priorities within a multidisciplinary team. The role requires undertaking required training and completing specialist competencies.
The journey begins with supernumerary status based on your ICU experience, followed by induction, simulation, and training days. The post holder is responsible for maintaining high standards of clinical practice, medication safety, and compliance with clinical governance, promoting patient safety and dignity, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide skilled nursing care under supervision, demonstrating high standards in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
* Ensure care delivery aligns with Trust and Critical Care policies.
* Manage medication custody, administration, and recording according to hospital policy and NMC guidelines; complete IV drug competency within Critical Care.
* Report any matters affecting professional standards to the Critical Care Matron.
* Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
