Overview
JSS Rail has been appointed on the Eastern Region Minor Emerging Works and Minor Projects up to £600k framework. The business is looking to fill the role of a Site Supervisor, ideally based in north-central England to assist in the delivery of these works. Projects range in scope and size and are typically valued between £30k and £600k each for Network Rail. The role reports to the Contracts Manager and/or Project Manager and is responsible for managing the on-site programme with respect to delivery, workmanship and safety, ensuring that adequate labour, plant, materials and subcontractors are available to meet contract requirements. The successful candidate will assist in pre-construction activities and the preparation of H&S documentation for specific projects, including Task Briefs, Work Package Plans and Construction Phase Plans. This is a site-based role requiring strong communication and collaboration across multiple stakeholders. We are an equal opportunities employer.
Responsibilities
* Liaise with the customer, their representatives, and other stakeholders on site operational issues.
* Act as the daily site contact, coordinate and inform local site stakeholders through the project life cycle on site.
* Assist and coordinate with the Project Manager in completing Task Briefs, Work Package Plans (WPP) / Construction Phase Plans (CPP) and other H&S paperwork as required. Understand subcontractors' RAMS and ITPs to ensure quality standards are achieved.
* Be actively involved in HSEQS management on projects and drive continuous improvement in line with the company’s safety philosophy.
* Plan weekly and daily activities with the Project Manager. Attend and chair daily coordination/white board meetings and distribute action points.
* Set up a Safe & Secure work site in accordance with company processes and coordinate trades activities, supervise and manage subcontractors and works team activity.
* Interpret drawings and specifications and communicate directions to site personnel, subcontractors and suppliers.
* Requisition materials.
* Maintain site security, hoardings and signboards to present a tidy and professional appearance.
* Inspect subcontractors’ work and sign off when it meets the required standard.
* Undertake snagging and arrange rectification of defects throughout the project lifecycle.
* Manage site logistics and waste removal; ensure waste materials are placed in appropriate skips.
* Complete site inductions, attend site meetings and action points identified.
* Ensure toolbox talks are conducted by subcontractors and request outstanding information as needed.
* Monitor key milestones and report weekly to the Contracts Manager / Project Manager.
* Escalate issues in a timely manner to line management and maintain weekly progress records.
* Maintain daily diary documenting progress, workforce, safety issues, weather, and any issues affecting progress.
* Support the Contract and Project Managers and manage various subcontractors and the in-house delivery team as required.
* Lead and model company values and communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and third parties.
Qualifications
* Proven track record of at least 5 years within a construction management environment with a National/Regional Contractor, preferably with railway experience, and strong HSEQS standards.
* Experience across different construction types with associated technical and logistical delivery challenges.
* Experience of managing construction from a quality, programme, risk and HSE/HAS perspective.
* Good understanding of project logistics and programme to completion.
* Working knowledge of project specifications.
* Organised with good time management and proactive planning.
* Ability to motivate and manage individuals, teams and trade contractors, building consensus where needed.
* Strong relationship management and ability to manage operatives.
* Ability to align Company commercial strategy with own activities.
* Comprehensive knowledge of all trades on site, codes of practice, and requirements for works.
* Delivery-focused and performance-driven; computer literate.
* Working towards an academic and/or professional industry qualification.
