Management Accountant

About the Role
As Management Accountant, you’ll play a key role in delivering accurate, timely financial reporting and driving improvements across the finance function. You’ll manage two direct reports and act as a trusted business partner to operations, project management, and senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Management Accounting & Month-End
* Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow commentary)
* Own the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion
* Post and review accruals, prepayments, provisions, and project adjustments
* Reconcile balance sheet control accounts including WIP, inventory, and deferred income
Project Accounting & WIP Reporting
* Produce detailed monthly WIP reporting for long-term, project-based contracts
* Work with project managers to assess progress, costs to complete, and forecast margins
* Prepare project margin analysis and investigate variances
Manufacturing & Cost Control
* Maintain accurate job and project costing within Sage 200
* Support inventory valuation and stock provisions
Budgeting, Forecasting & Commercial Analysis
* Assist with annual budgeting and rolling forecasts
* Provide financial insight for pricing, tenders, and contract negotiations
Team Leadership
* Line manage two direct reports, driving development and performance
* Identify and implement process improvements
Controls, Systems & Audit
* Maintain strong internal controls across project accounting and month-end
* Act as key contact for auditors
What We’re Looking For
* Qualified or part-qualified accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA / AAT or equivalent)
* Strong management accounting experience within manufacturing or engineering
* Hands-on experience with project accounting, WIP, and month-end close
* Previous team management experience
* Advanced Excel skills; Sage 200 experience desirable
* Commercially minded with excellent communication skills
