Job Description
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. Additionally, the nurse directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. An RN II must complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee, and meet the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibilities such as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities, and engaging in department initiatives. The RN II also communicates and shares information with the Director/Designee and co-workers, participates in peer reviews, and develops educational materials for staff and patients. The portfolio must be current and submitted annually by March 1st.
Education
Associates Degree in Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN, or ADN) required. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
Experience
Advancement to this level requires a minimum of 1872 hours of RN experience (936 hours if holding a BSN) and successful completion of a performance evaluation.
Certification & Licensures
RN License required. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. Relevant Specialty Certification is preferred. Candidates must be licensed or eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, either via a multi-state license under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a single-state license valid in Virginia. New hires must obtain AHA certification prior to completing orientation.
