Job Description:
Are you a great communicator and curious about the world around you? Would you like to join the UK’s largest non-fiction publisher? We have an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join the editorial team at Ebury, on a 12-month Fixed Term contract.
The opportunity: You will work as part of a collaborative and supportive editorial team of eight people, with a passion for new and innovative ideas. The team works across the Lifestyle and Food hubs, but this role will focus mainly on the Lifestyle hub.
Reporting to a Senior Editor, the Editorial Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of administrative tasks, working across a mix of illustrated and text-led books titles. Day-to-day, you can expect to be:
* Providing general office administration, such as booking meeting rooms, arranging couriers, minuting meetings, processing expenses, processing invoices, sending out proof mailings, and arranging for author advanced copies.
* Carrying out ad hoc diary management for the Publishing Directors and the wider team, including organising team meetings, schedules for book fairs and overseas trips.
* Managing the internal book process under supervision, from acquisition to publication, to ensure deadlines are met, including overseeing spreadsheets and sales reports using Excel and Biblio.
* Managing data input and accuracy on publishing systems.
Over time, there will be opportunities to develop your editorial skills, such as:
* Researching book ideas, talent scouting, and sharing feedback, including presenting in team meetings.
* Writing persuasive cover copy and updating title data.
* Acting as a point of contact for authors and agents.
What you’ll bring: If you’re ready to start your career in the industry, this is a great place to begin. We value curiosity, a passion for our published books, especially in the lifestyle market (gardening, fashion, beauty influencers), and the ability to work effectively in a team and fast-paced environment.
You’ll have:
* Excellent organizational and time management skills.
* The ability to meet deadlines.
* Adaptability to changing priorities.
* Exceptional attention to detail.
* Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in remote and in-person settings.
* A proactive approach to anticipating deadlines and prompting team members to keep projects on track.
The Food and Lifestyle hubs: Our food hub publishes renowned cooks and chefs, while our lifestyle hub features global stars and national treasures, sharing inspiring stories and recipes.
About Penguin: The UK’s largest publisher, with over 2,000 employees, publishing over 1,500 books annually. We embrace diverse talent and aim to make books accessible for everyone.
Disability Confident: To be considered, applicants must demonstrate interest in Lifestyle and Ebury, proven writing ability, experience with MS Office, and stakeholder management skills. We encourage applicants to specify any reasonable adjustments needed.
How to apply: Submit your CV and tailored cover letter by 23:59 on Wednesday, October 9th. Please answer the question about a lifestyle content creator you admire in your cover letter.
Salary: £27,500 plus bonus and benefits.
Benefits include: Discounted shopping, season ticket loan, healthcare, gym membership, and more. Full details available on our website.
Hybrid working: Expect to work from our London office two days a week, with flexible arrangements discussed during recruitment.
The recruitment process: We conduct inclusive interviews, considering reasonable adjustments, and encourage you to inform us of any needs.
