Job Description:
The Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands is a Tenure-Track position. The Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands will direct the Monarch Marching Band, Basketball Band, Symphonic Band, and hold additional teaching responsibilities. The Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands will plan and manage the athletic band budget overseen by the Director of Bands. The position will require active engagement in teaching, research/creative activity, and university service. Duties of the position are:
1. Monarch Marching Band- the Director will oversee recruitment, oversee the selection of auditioned student leadership, plan field shows for the marching season, writing and/or hiring drill design and hiring the arrangement of music, plan and teach effective rehearsals, oversee/supervise instructors for Color Guard, Drumline, and oversee other staff positions including Graduate Assistants.
2. Basketball Band - the Director will direct the majority of Men’s and Women’s home basketball games, including any postseason tournament travel. They will also serve as the primary contact for any basketball band decisions. The Director of Athletic Bands will work in collaboration with the Director of Bands to develop a comprehensive band department and serve as a liaison with the Department of Athletics.
3. Additional teaching responsibilities - include conducting the Symphonic Band in rehearsals and performances, possible teaching of Marching Band Techniques, Music Education Instrumental Methods, and other related coursework aligned with the Director’s field of expertise.

4. Experience Teaching Marching Band in a High School setting.
5. Evidence of three or more years teaching Marching Band at the University level.
6. Evidence of drilling writing and music arranging experience.
7. Evidence of three or more years of professional experience and/or university teaching experience in the field of conducting.
