The role of Technical Demonstrator is primarily concerned with the planning, development, and safe delivery of technical workshops within the ceramics studio. The post holder will be required to demonstrate a range of equipment and techniques within this field.
This position will require working with other programs delivered across the art and design portfolio and within other workshop areas when cover is required. The post holder will supervise and provide assistance to students as necessary when undertaking their individual or set project work.
In addition to the role of Technical Demonstrator, the post holder will also oversee and maintain the equipment, monitor, maintain, and provide stock control to the workshops and stores. The post holder will work closely with colleagues to ensure appropriate support is provided to students at all levels.
The post holder will be responsible for setting up equipment and maintaining the workshops in a clean, tidy, safe, and secure manner. They will be expected to have a broad knowledge of techniques, materials, and equipment used within a ceramics studio. Additionally, the post holder will be responsible for loading and programming the ceramics kilns.
The post holder will be expected to support the Principal Technical Demonstrators and others in arranging University events and exhibitions both on and off-campus. They will also be expected to engage in research activities associated with their technical workshop practice, or other related activities, in order to maintain the currency of the students' learning experience.
The post holder must have a professional attitude, with a high degree of enthusiasm and a willingness to deliver student-centered learning provision.
