An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Haematology Directorate for a Band 3 Ward Clerk.
The ward clerk is an essential part of the ward team, who works within the ward, to provide essential clerical duties, to assist the nursing staff with the organisation of the ward as well as answering patient and visitor queries.
The post holder will have direct contact with patients/visitors in their capacity as Ward Clerk within Dacie Ward. Duties will include receiving and directing patients, visitors and staff visiting the ward, liaising with the wider Trust teams to support patient care.
To undertake clerical duties relating to documentation for patients including admission paperwork, clinical notes, discharge notification, patient records etc.
Main duties of the job
1. Promote a customer focused approach to receive patients and visitors to the ward, providing a courteous, responsive and effective first point of contact for patients, carers and healthcare professionals, both internal and external to the Trust.
2. Use judgement in responding to queries or taking messages.
3. Maintain good communication links with the ward team and other departments.
4. To arrange transport when required, clearly communicating with the nursing staff.
5. Prioritise, plan and organise daily workload.
6. To answer telephone calls and deal with non-nursing/non-medical enquiries.
7. To access voicemail and pass on accurate messages.
8. Maintain good communication links with the ward team and other departments.
9. Arrange for any repairs that are required.
10. Communicate and document information accordingly.
11. To undertake any other clerical task as agreed mutually with the ward manager to ensure that the administrative systems meet the needs of the ward.
12. Appropriate disposal and shredding of confidential papers.
13. To record/update admission, discharge/transfer of patient data on Trust information systems.
