What is a Utility Worker?
Utility Workers perform and assist with manual labor work in any of our operating districts throughout the Central Hudson service territory. The Utility Worker position is an individual contributor role and is considered a feeder position for our various union positions such as power line technician, gas mechanic, electrician, etc.
What does a Utility Worker do?
Under general supervision and as assigned, assists employees of all classifications in the performance of their work and performs manual and laboring work such as but not limited to:
8. Handling material, tools and equipment
9. Loading and unloading trucks
10. Driving cars and trucks
11. Cutting grass and brush
12. Cutting ice and shoveling snow
13. Sweeping and cleaning
14. Raking racks, scraping paint, digging, trenching, backfilling, shoveling, lifting, carrying, etc.
15. Operating equipment not specifically limited to operation by higher classified employees
What does it take be a Utility Worker?
Required:
16. High school diploma or equivalency degree
17. Must be able to lift and handle heavy materials, follow instructions and work with little supervision
18. Must be fit as evidenced by pre-employment physical and drug test
19. Must be able to do simple clerical work
20. Valid driver’s license
21. Successful candidates not in possession of a Class A CDL must obtain one upon employment
Preferred:
22. Technical schooling and/or related electrical or mechanical experience
23. Class A CDL

Pay Rate: $29.53 to $30.93 / hour
