Geotechnical engineer

Offer description

Are you a Geotechnical Engineer who enjoys seeing projects take shape from the ground up? Looking for real design responsibility, exposure to diverse sectors, and the right support to achieve chartership?

This role is ideal for a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer nearing completion of a graduate programme, or an early-career Engineer looking to step into more complex projects while progressing towards chartership.

We’re looking for a motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and play a key role in delivering high-quality geotechnical solutions across major infrastructure and building projects.

The Role

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll be involved across the full project lifecycle – from early concept design through to construction support. You’ll contribute to developing ground models, producing robust designs and specifications, and collaborating closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Our work spans a wide range of sectors including rail, highways, power, aviation, defence, public sector and life sciences – offering genuine variety and technical challenge.

You’ll also gain valuable site experience through supervising ground investigations and supporting construction activities, giving you a strong balance between design and practical delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Deliver geotechnical design and specification packages across varied projects
* Design foundations, retaining structures, earthworks and ground improvement solutions
* Develop ground models and derive characteristic parameters
* Prepare desk studies, ground investigation specifications and technical reports
* Supervise site investigations and support construction activities
* Work in line with Eurocodes, British Standards and CDM regulations
* Collaborate within a fully integrated, multi-disciplinary team
* Stay up to date with industry best practice and emerging design techniques

What We’re Looking For

* Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology (or equivalent)
* Experience within an engineering consultancy at Graduate/Engineer level (not a fresh graduate role)
* Strong understanding of soil mechanics and ground engineering principles
* Experience in geotechnical design (foundations, retaining walls, earthworks)
* Working knowledge of Eurocode 7, British Standards and CDM requirements
* Site experience supporting ground investigations or construction
* Actively working towards chartership (ICE, Geological Society or similar)
* Full driving licence and willingness to travel to site
* Ability to obtain Security Clearance (please ensure eligibility before applying)

Desirable

* Experience using geotechnical design software such as GEO5
* Sector experience in rail, highways, power, aviation or public sector

Why Join Us?

* Work on technically challenging, real-world projects across multiple sectors
* Gain full project lifecycle exposure – from concept through to construction
* Structured support towards chartership and professional development
* Be part of a collaborative team where your input genuinely makes an impact

If you’re ready to take the next step in your geotechnical career with greater responsibility, more complex projects and strong support behind you, we’d love to hear from you.
