Job overview
We are a special school for secondary pupils in Years 7 to 11 with learning and additional needs. The Abbey School converted to Academy status on 1st September 2018 and is proud to be part of the Weydon Multi Academy Trust (WMAT). We have been graded Outstanding by Ofsted in 2009, 2012, 2016, 2022, and again in June 2024.
We are seeking a committed Full-Time Teaching Assistant to work term-time only, 30.25 hours per week (8:50 am to 3:20 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 8:35 am to 3:20 pm on Wednesday, plus 2 hours & 15 minutes after school for intervention duties. Days to be agreed. The role includes three days per week supporting whole-class learning, small-group work, and one-to-one support under the direction of a class teacher. The remaining two days are dedicated to supporting literacy interventions under the guidance of our specialist literacy teacher, alongside taking responsibility for the management and daily running of the school library. This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone enthusiastic, organised, and passionate about supporting young people and promoting a love of reading.

The Abbey School is a strong and vibrant special school with places for just over 130 students aged 11-16 years who have learning difficulties and additional needs. Working in a special school is extremely rewarding, and our students continue to amaze us on a daily basis with their attitudes, achievements and behaviour.
We converted to Academy status on 1st September 2018 and are part of the Weydon Multi Academy Trust (WMAT), a dynamic, forward-thinking and innovative Trust. We are currently seven schools – three special schools and four secondaries within the Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere areas.
There are regular opportunities for collaborative working, CPD and the sharing of expertise between staff across the schools. There are also opportunities for staff to join a range of WMAT working groups to further their own continuing professional development.
It is a very exciting time to join our team as we move towards the next stage of our development within WMAT.
