Role: Senior Reactor Physicist Location: Bristol / Gloucester / Dorchester (possibly elsewhere) - hybrid role with good opportunities for working from home Salary: Up to c£65k excellent benefits package Start: June 2025 onwards The nuclear industry is moving away from traditional reactor designs towards new small modular reactor (SMR) and advanced modular reactor (AMR) designs, with improved safety features and lower build costs. These new concepts bring exciting new modelling challenges requiring the introduction of innovative new mathematics, physics, engineering and software engineering techniques. To this end, my client, a global leader in advanced engineering and innovative technology solutions who is a strategic partner for the UK’s nuclear new build program and a leader in reactor technology, conceptual design and engineering relating to new nuclear technologies, is looking for enthusiastic and innovative physicists (Reactor Physicists) to work in a variety of technical teams performing analysis work for a broad range of established and cutting-edge reactor designs. This role will present excellent opportunities for the continual development of skills and experience in physics, particularly as applied to nuclear engineering; also, the potential to lead technical developments and collaborations, and the teams responsible for their implementation. These roles can be based in various UK locations (Bristol, Gloucester, Dorchester) with significant opportunities available for hybrid working. Key Responsibilities: Developing underpinning mathematical and physical theories Performing complex reactor physics plant analysis Delivering technical training courses to a specialist audience Working as a team to develop and refine theoretical models and computational simulations Presenting results at technical meetings and conferences (where appropriate) Interfacing closely with the international academic research community Generating new business through interaction with international commercial customers Qualifications An undergraduate degree in mathematics, physics or engineering, or any other subject with a strong mathematical component A strong background in mathematical and physical theory and implementation Programming skills in languages such as Fortran, Python or Java Ability to think innovatively and to solve complex problems and able to quickly and efficiently absorb new technical skills Self-motivated, with a genuine passion for the field of nuclear physics Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively For the right candidate, our client can offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including travel and accommodation expenses, combined with the opportunity to work for a highly respected company at the forefront of the UK nuclear industry offering excellent prospects for future career development and advancement.
