About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Care Home Manager to lead and manage our care home in Tiverton, which comprises a 34-bed dementia unit and a 26-bed nursing unit. You will hold 24-hour responsibility for the home’s overall operations and ensure that high standards of nursing and personal care are maintained in a person-centred and responsive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
* Lead by example with a positive, open, and inclusive management style.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and development.
* Maintain high standards of care and ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements (e.g. CQC).
* Manage resources and budgets effectively, providing reports and taking corrective action as needed.
* Oversee all aspects of the home’s operations, including staff, residents, and facilities.
Care Quality
* Ensure high-quality, safe, and person-centred care is delivered consistently.
* Review resident care plans regularly and involve residents and families in care planning.
* Ensure safe medication handling, storage, and administration practices.
* Manage incidents, safeguarding, and statutory notifications promptly and effectively.
Staff Management
* Recruit, supervise, support, and develop staff.
* Implement staff appraisal, training, and induction programmes.
* Ensure rotas are effectively planned based on skill mix and resident needs.
* Monitor absenteeism, agency use, and disciplinary matters.
Resident Services
* Promote dignity, respect, and individual choice for all residents.
* Support residents to express their views and actively participate in their care.
* Monitor and evaluate care outcomes and implement changes where needed.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
* Maintain professional communication with staff, residents, families, and external agencies.
* Organise regular staff and resident meetings.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with local healthcare providers and community organisations.
Marketing & Occupancy
* Support the development and execution of a marketing strategy to maintain high occupancy.
* Assess potential residents promptly and agree appropriate care fees.
* Review resident fees periodically in line with changing care needs.
Health & Safety
* Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Fire Regulations.
* Maintain the security and safety of the home and its occupants.
Requirements
* NMC Registered Nurse (essential)
* NVQ Level 5 in Leadership for Health & Social Care (essential)
* Minimum 1 year of managerial experience in a care home setting (preferred)
* Proven leadership skills in a clinical and operational environment
* Strong understanding of dementia care and nursing best practices
* Ability to manage budgets and drive occupancy
* Excellent communication and people management skills
* Ability to reliably commute or relocate to Tiverton before starting work (preferred)
