Band 4 OT Assistant Practitioner – Orthopaedics & Surgical Services

The post is a key part of the OT discharge service supporting registered staff with assessment and rehabilitation. The role includes assessment of trauma and elective patients referred to Occupational Therapy, taking equipment to patients’ homes and fitting items, providing follow‑up visits for prescribed equipment, maintaining stock, liaising with outside agencies and patients’ families, teaching patients and families how to use and fit equipment, and undertaking falls assessments.
Based at Frimley Park Hospital, applicants must be able to travel between all Frimley Health hospitals and patients’ homes.
Responsibilities
* Assessment of trauma and elective patients referred to Occupational Therapy.
* Take equipment to patients’ homes and fit items (training will be given).
* Provide follow‑up visits for prescribed equipment.
* Maintain stock.
* Liaise with outside agencies and patients’ families.
* Teach patients and families how to use and fit equipment.
* Undertake falls assessments.
Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent qualification in English and Mathematics.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
Experience
* Experience as Band 3 Therapy assistant within an NHS setting.
* Leading and delivering exercise programmes in a hospital setting.
* Working within a team.
* Experience of working directly with patients.
Desirable Experience
* Undertaking exercise prescription for people with long‑term conditions.
* Evaluating outcomes of exercise or use of equipment.
Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of anatomy/physiology.
* Specific clinical knowledge relevant to speciality.
* Interpersonal skills including concise and effective verbal and written communication.
* Ability to instruct and motivate.
* IT skills.
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of therapy interventions acquired through training or experience within a healthcare setting.
* Negotiation skills, able to overcome barriers to exercise.
Special Requirements
* Must hold a valid driving licence and be able to deliver and fit equipment into patients’ homes.
* Willingness to work flexibly.
