Job summary

The post holder will support the implementation of the NHS cancer plan and NHS cancer reform strategy through providing dedicated administrative support to multidisciplinary teams working together to deliver high quality care for patients with cancer.

The post also encompasses a patient tracking role to ensure that all suspected and diagnosed cancer patients are investigated and treated in a timely fashion. There is particular focus on managing each stage in the patient's journey with particular reference to the national minimum dataset for cancer.


Responsibilities

* Manage collation and monitoring of all cancer patients’ pathways for submission to the National Cancer Waiting Times database for specific cancer patients diagnosed at HUH and ensure all appropriate actions are taken to meet the National Cancer Waiting Times targets.
* Support the MDT coordinators in the preparation of weekly multi‑disciplinary meetings (MDMS) as required.
* Primary focus on supporting the Head and Neck Pathway and Cancer MDT Coordinator to improve performance in our Faster Diagnosis standard.
* Support that MDM outcomes are appropriately recorded on EPR and on Somerset Cancer Register immediately at MDM (live recording) or immediately after MDM.
* Ensure relevant imaging is reported and available on the PACS system for the meeting.
* Ensure all required medical notes and imaging are available for the meeting.

Role requirements


Education / Qualifications

* Literate and numerate with a good level of education to A'Level standard (or equivalent)
* Desirable: Cancer Certificate (National Cancer Intelligence Network NCIN)
* Desirable: AMSPAR / Medical terminology


Skills & Abilities

* Highly motivated
* Computer literate – able to use email, internet browsers and standard Microsoft packages (Word, Excel)
* Problem‑solving, prioritising and follow‑through to completion
* Excellent communication skills with staff, patients and the public at all levels of the organisation
* Teamworking and managing competing priorities
* Work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and escalating problems quickly and appropriately


Experience

* Experience of using a patient/client administration system
* Experience dealing with patients in a healthcare setting or public‑sector front‑office setting
* Desirable: previous experience in a cancer MDT office or hospital department


Knowledge

* Understanding of confidentiality issues and the Data Protection Act
* Knowledge of administrative procedures
* Working knowledge of Somerset or Infoflex cancer database
* Desirable: national NHS policy – cancer waiting times version 9
