Deputy Managing Lawyer – Commercial (Media & Technology)

The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity for a senior commercial lawyer to step into a true hybrid role combining in-house partnership, team leadership, and innovative legal delivery.
You will act as a dedicated legal partner to a major UK media organisation, embedded in their day-to-day operations while backed by the platform, resources, and expertise of a global law firm.
Unlike traditional private practice, this role offers:

The Role
You will lead a team delivering a broad range of commercial legal support, including:
* Drafting and negotiating commercial, technology and supplier contracts
* Acting as a key point of contact for senior stakeholders
* Managing workflow, prioritisation, and quality across the team
* Driving consistency through playbooks, templates, and improved processes
* Supporting the ongoing evolution of a scaled legal delivery model
This is a hands-on leadership role blending technical legal work, people management, and operational oversight.
What We’re Looking For
You are likely to be:
* A 6–10 PQE commercial lawyer (or equivalent experience)
* Experienced in commercial contracts (technology, media, or outsourcing exposure helpful but not essential)
* Comfortable leading or mentoring others, formally or informally
* Commercially minded, with an interest in how legal services can be delivered more efficiently
Most importantly, you will be someone who:
* Enjoys being close to the business and decision-making
* Wants to move beyond traditional fee-earning structures
* Is motivated by building, improving, and leading, not just advising
Ideal Backgrounds
We are particularly interested in candidates currently working:
* In-house in commercial, media, or technology environments
* In commercial/TMT teams within private practice
* In alternative legal services or legal operations environments
