£12.31 to £16.62 depending on time worked


JOB SUMMARY

The Care Assistant will provide children and young people "looked after" with appropriately planned care, support, and guidance, and serve as a positive role model. The role involves acting professionally and proactively to ensure a positive living experience for children and young people in the home, utilizing the framework of the Model of Attachment Practice.


MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Become familiar with the Model of Attachment Practice and apply its principles to care practices for individual children or groups.
2. Develop caring relationships with children, ensuring their physical, psychological, social, and emotional needs are met according to Trust Residential Child Care Policy.
3. Be sensitive to the needs of children and young people, considering race, culture, language, and religion.
4. Familiarize yourself with the client’s policies regarding the facility and implement relevant procedures, including record-keeping.
5. Assist Residential Social Workers / Residential Care Workers in providing a safe, caring, and supportive environment.
6. Monitor children during the night and provide support as needed.
7. Support bedtime and waking routines alongside Residential Social Workers / Residential Care Workers.
8. Help prepare meals, snacks, breakfasts, and packed lunches for children.


ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Either:

* 5 GCSEs Grade C or above, including English and Maths, and at least 6 months’ experience working with children/young people aged 10–18 in a formal setting.
* Relevant Child Care / Social Care qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) with similar experience.
* A higher qualification such as a Degree in Social Work, Teaching, or Youth Work.
* Alternatively, a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children/young people aged 10–18 in a formal setting.

And:

* Be registered or eligible for registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council.


Skills / Abilities

* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Ability to relate appropriately with young people.
* Understanding of confidentiality.
* Ability to keep accurate records.
* Ability to manage children/young people who display challenging behaviour.
