Senior Electrical Engineer
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems is beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable, sustainable assets and net‑zero commitments.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role, which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.

Qualifications & Experience
* A good working knowledge of the "Electricity at Work" regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Experience of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing and delivering safety systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability systems.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills (essential).
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration within 12 months.
* UK driving licence.
Additional Information
* Hybrid role; base location near your home.
* Some travel and overnights may be required.
* Incident management objective will be part of your development plan; appropriate training will be provided.
* Interviews will be held via MS Teams within three weeks of the closing date.
