About the Team

The Multilateral Unit and Future Presidencies Unit sit in the Global Issues & Governance (GIG) team, promoting and protecting HMT's interests internationally through major multilateral economic fora.

It is a relatively new team leading the policy development and delivery of the Finance Tracks for future UK Presidencies of multilateral organisations, with it confirmed that the UK will host the G7 in 2028, and expected that we will host the G20 soon.

Both the G7 and G20 are led by a presidency country which rotates year on year, with responsibility for setting the agenda of that year, hosting meetings, delivering consensus across shared priorities.

About the Job

Key accountabilities will include:

* Lead HMT’s contribution to the ongoing Finance Tracks of G20 Presidencies, working closely with international counterparts and preparing high quality briefings.
* Lead the development and delivery of UK policy priorities ahead of HMT’s upcoming leadership of the Finance Track, working closely with teams across HMT, HMG and with the Bank of England on policy proposals.
* Develop and manage relationships with key x-government partners, including representing HMT at various steering group meetings.
* Lead domestic and international engagement on the development of policy priorities, including engagement with Posts, industry, countries and think tanks.
* Provide advice for the Chancellor and Finance Deputy (Director General, International Group) on their approach at multilateral meetings on the full range of policy issues, including through the writing and coordination of briefing materials, submissions and programmes and engagement with policy teams across HMT, with private and press offices.
* Identify and manage policy risks and emerging issues, developing mitigation strategies.
* Manage HEO/SEO team members.

About You

The successful candidate will:

* Ability to balance a range of internal and external factors to policy proposals which are both creative and impactful.
* Proven track record of designing and delivering a complex work programme and/or ministerial events and meetings under pressure and to competing deadlines.
* Experience of working with a range of partners from across Treasury, Government, and beyond, building trusted relationships.
* Experience of international economic engagement, desirably within multilateral fora and/or priority areas within the Finance Track.
