Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist
Closing date: 10 May 2026.
This is a full‑time Consultant Psychiatrist position with the Diagnostic Memory Service, working closely with the Older Adult Mental Health Team, based at Red Oak Lodge, Leyton, E114HU. The role replaces a post of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) with a 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) to 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) ratio and operates within a well‑supported multidisciplinary team.
Main duties
* Provide medical assessment, treatment planning, prescribing and medication review in line with national and local guidance.
* Conduct physical health monitoring, outcome measurement and risk management.
* Support local and national initiatives, including MSNAP/RCPsych standards, national guidance and local population needs.
* Contribute to the Whipps Cross redevelopment, national accreditation and collaborate with Integrated Care Board (ICB) and colleagues in geriatrics, neurology, psychology, older adult psychiatry and general adult psychiatry.
* Focus on dementia detection, optimisation of outcomes for newly diagnosed patients, and appropriate reduction of dementia risk.
Qualifications
* MRCPsych or equivalent. Section 12 approval or eligibility for it.
* Approved Clinician status, or eligibility for it.
* Inclusion in, or eligibility for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.
Experience
* Extensive knowledge of the biological, psychological, and social determinants of mental health disorders and evidence‑based treatment interventions in old‑age psychiatry.
