Research & Insights Manager, Geopolitical - Africa Region
c. £47,000 depending on experience
Central London (hybrid)
Our client is a specialist research consultancy working across fragile states and nations to produce and manage research that informs communication strategies for government and corporate clients that affect change in social and political issues. This is a superb opportunity for an ambitious candidate with experience in overseeing and delivering research products, managing pipelines of work and junior staff, and executing analytical and assessment projects, with a particular emphasis on media monitoring. Experience of strategic communications, media influence, and analysis of security threats would be particularly welcomed in this role.
This position offers the opportunity to work in the Africa Business Unit on a high-growth project that provides analytical assessments across multiple African countries. The project integrates multiple data streams including opinion research, media monitoring, open-source insights, and qualitative research across Africa. The work covers some of the most important contemporary issues (security, democracy, development, defense, etc.); this role will suit people with interests in international politics and backgrounds in research.
Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of analytical report writing, as the position involves direct responsibility for the delivery of robust and high-quality work. The ability to understand the strategic use of research is key. The position also involves some foreign travel to non-Western countries and within Europe. Candidates must be resident in the UK or have the right to live and work in the UK.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Account Management
* Be the primary point of contact and build long-term relationships with clients.
* Develop a thorough understanding of how client requirements translate into research projects.
* Become a trusted advisor to clients, challenging their approach where necessary and offering better solutions.
* Take ownership of client relations – communicating regularly and ensuring satisfaction with our delivery.
* Develop knowledge and expertise in clients’ geographies and sectors.
Project Management & Delivery
* Manage multi-country research projects within Africa independently, ensuring successful delivery aligned with client needs.
* Lead design, analysis, and reporting of research products focusing on media monitoring, social listening, open-source information, and qualitative research.
* Guide and support rigorous, methodologically sound research practices across various methodologies.
* Contribute to project costing and resource planning discussions.
* Coordinate workflow and delegate responsibilities to team members for efficient project execution.
* Ensure error-free, high-standard project delivery, following quality control processes.
* Design research instruments and contribute to research design.
* Identify process improvements and lead reporting design and analysis, consulting with clients and managing junior staff workloads.
* Ensure projects are delivered on time and within quality standards.
* Troubleshoot basic project issues and escalate complex problems appropriately.
* Travel as required for training, client briefings, and presentations.
This role is based 3 days/week in Central London with the option for remote work on other days. It is initially a 1-year contract with potential for permanence.
