The Role

The school is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Welfare Officer to support the pastoral and safeguarding systems within the school.

This role is central to ensuring that students receive the support they need to overcome barriers to learning and wellbeing. The Welfare Officer will work closely with the pastoral team, safeguarding leads, teachers, and external agencies to support students experiencing challenges related to health, wellbeing, attendance, and personal circumstances.

The successful candidate will build positive relationships with students and families while maintaining high standards of safeguarding and professional practice.


Key Responsibilities

* Providing wellbeing support to students who require pastoral assistance

* Acting as a key point of contact for students experiencing personal or emotional difficulties

* Supporting safeguarding procedures and maintaining accurate records

* Working closely with pastoral leaders to monitor student wellbeing

* Liaising with parents and carers regarding student welfare concerns

* Supporting attendance improvement strategies

* Referring students to appropriate external support services when required

* Promoting positive mental health initiatives across the school

* Supporting the development of wellbeing programmes and student support initiatives

* Maintaining confidential records and documentation

Person Specification

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills

* Experience supporting young people or working in pastoral or welfare roles

* A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students

* Excellent organisational skills and record keeping

* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection practices

* The ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies

* A commitment to promoting student wellbeing and inclusion

Experience working in education, youth work, or social care settings would be advantageous.
