Role Description

Allianz UK is embarking on a journey to achieve excellence in its management of risk and is investing in first line risk management, governance and controls across the first line. This is a great opportunity to join an established team to support and enhance the way in which risks are managed within its Claims business. As First Line Risk Manager, you will support the Claims business in identifying, assessing, mitigating and monitoring its risk profile in order to safely achieve its business plan and objectives. As well as being a senior referral point for risk management, you will partner with the local SMEs and risk owners and lead in identifying, assessing, mitigating, reporting and monitoring the business areas’ risk profile in order to achieve objectives. You will also lead the business area in enhancing a robust risk and control environment, including adherence with functional rules.


Location

This position is available on a hybrid basis and can be based at any UK office location.


Salary Information

Pay: Circa £55,000 per year. Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.


About You

Responsibilities and expectations for the role include engagement with business SMEs and risk owners, leadership in risk management processes, and collaboration with other First Line Risk functions. The role focuses on developing risk appetite, KRIs and other risk measures, and delivering evidence-based risk insights to senior management and management forums. You will support and influence the business SMEs and risk owners in ensuring risks and controls are considered in change activity, and you will lead or support first line risk alignment activities.


Responsibilities

* Engage with the business SMEs and risk owners to provide specialist risk advice and encourage challenging established risk processes, controls, approaches and thinking.
* Provide a lead point of technical referral for risk management processes and proactively provide risk advice and support to the leadership team.
* Raise awareness of risks within the business to the leadership team, recommending and taking forward measures to remove or mitigate those risks.
* Lead the enhancement of risk appetite through the business area.
* Oversee the development of KRIs and other relevant risk measures.
* Direct and deliver the preparation of impactful, evidence-based and structured risk/controls insight to senior management and management forums.
* Support or lead for the Head of First Line Risk for the business area in first line risk alignment activity.
* Support and influence the business SMEs and risk owners in ensuring risks and controls are considered in change activity.
* Direct the work of others within the team.
* Work collaboratively and in alignment with other First Line Risk functions.
* Develop and maintain own risk management capabilities and understanding.
* Advocate the role of the First Line Risk and Controls team to the First, Second and Third Line stakeholders and act as a trusted partner for controls improvement activities.


Essential Skills

* Awareness of the operations and risks of a general insurance company
* Strong stakeholder management skills with an ability to actively listen, build strong relationships and influence at all levels, experience challenging the decisions of manager at all levels in a professional and robust way.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to explain technical and complex concepts clearly and concisely, with a focus on risk-based analysis and insights.
* Pragmatic mindset with ability to balance commercial and risk considerations.
* A logical and analytical mind with ability to reach reasoned conclusions from ambiguous and incomplete information.
* Demonstrate attention to detail, with ability to step back and see the wider view.
* Exceptional organisational skills.
* Work collaboratively in an environment where there are multiple and conflicting deadlines.


Desirable Skills

* Knowledge and experience of Allianz systems and processes within Claims, Financial Crime or Supplier management would be advantageous.
