An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Professional Development and Content Officer to join Hampshire Engineering Services at Hampshire County Council.

Are you organised, people focused and motivated by learning and development? Do you enjoy coordinating programmes, supporting others to succeed and making sure information is clear, accurate and accessible?

The Role:

We’re looking for a Professional Development and Content Officer to play a key role in supporting apprentices, graduates and trainees across Highways, Engineering and Transport at Hampshire County Council. This is a varied role where you’ll combine people focused coordination with responsibility for maintaining high quality online content that supports recruitment and showcases our professional expertise.

You’ll be at the heart of how we develop future engineers and technical professionals, ensuring development programmes run smoothly, meet professional standards and that those on them feel supported throughout their journey.

What you’ll do:

You’ll coordinate and support apprenticeship, graduate and professional development pathways, helping trainees progress and achieve professional body membership. Acting as a central point of contact, the role provides structured coordination and appropriate pastoral support for apprentices, trainees, managers and mentors, ensuring a consistent and supportive experience across all programmes.

The role involves maintaining clear development routes, records and schedules, ensuring compliance with professional standards and duty of care requirements. Progress, skills and competencies are tracked, with clear and accurate information produced to support managers and key stakeholders.

You’ll also identify skills and capability gaps and coordinate targeted technical training to support workforce development and future service demand. In addition, the role includes maintaining and improving Hampshire Engineering Services’ online content, working collaboratively with internal teams to gather, quality‑check and update information that is accurate, compliant and accessible, and that reflects our expertise and professional reputation.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone with experience of coordinating programmes, training activity or structured development processes, with the ability to keep activity well organised and running smoothly. The role requires confidence in managing multiple priorities at the same time, while maintaining accurate records and clear documentation.

You don’t need to be an engineer, but you will bring strong organisational and communication skills and a genuine interest in people development.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential, with the confidence to work effectively with a wide range of people at different levels. A supportive, person‑centred approach is key, along with the ability to provide appropriate pastoral coordination and respond sensitively to individual needs.

The successful candidate will be comfortable producing clear, well‑structured written information and working with digital content. Good IT skills are essential, including experience of Microsoft Office, together with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new systems and tools.

Why join us?

* Make a real difference to the development and progression of future engineers and technical professionals
* Enjoy a varied role combining people development, coordination and digital content
* Benefit from flexible and hybrid working arrangements that support work-life balance, including part-time options
* Access learning and development opportunities, including potential apprenticeship pathways
* Be part of a supportive, inclusive workplace within a respected professional service delivering real value to local communities

Our benefits package includes generous holiday entitlement, a local government pension scheme, flexible working options, family friendly policies, travel discounts and more.

If you are interested in supporting professional development, building capability and helping shape how Hampshire Engineering Services presents itself, we would love to hear from you.
