Consultant Radiologist with Specialist Interest in Urology
Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, flexible and committed Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in general and urology imaging for our cohesive, hard‑working team.
Responsibilities include augmenting and enhancing urology services delivered by Medical Imaging, supporting general imaging services, participating in general radiology workflow, audit, quality improvement, MDT work, teaching, and on‑call rota (1 in 8). The role also requires teleradiology cover for acute MR (17:00‑20:00 weekdays, 08:00‑20:00 weekends) and CT (20:00‑08:30).
Main duties of the job
Clinical Services
Provide an effective diagnostic radiology service to primary and secondary care alongside consultant colleagues, responsible for investigation of conditions on referral and ensuring proper functioning of the department.
Participate in emergency on‑call out‑of‑hours service for all consultants performing diagnostic general radiology, currently on a 1:8 rota with colleagues.
Training & Education
Contribute to the teaching of other grades of staff, both within and outside the department, including medical staff, nurses, paramedical staff, and scientific and technical staff.
Contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.
Contribute to appraisal of junior medical staff in accordance with guidelines from the Royal College of Radiologists and the Postgraduate Dean.
Clinical Governance
Demonstrate continuing improvements to the quality of service provided within the framework of the Trust’s Clinical Governance arrangements, including participation in the development of a satisfactory and consistent quality service, establishment of appropriate systems, and ensuring standards are met.
Participate in clinical audit, undertake audit on a regular basis and ensure audit findings are acted upon. Where necessary, implement changes to service delivery to improve and enhance patient care.

Qualifications
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR)
* At least 6 months higher training in the post holder’s special interest from a recognised training centre
* Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or Surgeons (MRCS)
* Other professional or higher qualification
Professional registration
* Full registration with the GMC
* Eligible to be included on the Specialist Register within 6 months of achieving Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview
Personal requirements
* Meets fitness to practice guidance as issued by the GMC
* Fulfil all duties of post including on-call requirements, if required
* Good personal health
* Full UK driving license with ability to drive own vehicle
Experience
* Suitable experience in areas of specialist interest
* Experience in general radiology skills (CT, MRI, USS, X‑ray, intervention) to allow post holder to offer general reporting and opinions on a broad range of work commonly encountered in a general radiology department
* Experience of out-of-hours working if relevant
* Willingness and ability to fulfil the job description, including participation in the on-call rota
* Postgraduate experience and familiarity with the UK NHS hospital system
* Ability to work in a team
* Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals
* Ability to develop, present and implement coherent ideas for service development/delivery
* Ability to delegate appropriately
* Completed an appropriate management or leadership course
Teaching, audit and research
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit
* Ability and desire to teach and support junior staff effectively
* Knowledge of the NHS and its developments
* Ability to critically appraise relevant medical literature
* Record of accomplishment in radiology
* Evidence of service improvement
* Evidence of involvement in research, e.g., publication of original research, presentation at regional, national or international meetings
