About the role
We’re looking for a highly skilled Technical Claims Lead to join our Group Legal & Compliance team. This is a senior technical role with responsibility for supporting Royal Mail Group’s personal injury claims portfolio. You’ll manage a large caseload of high-value and complex Employers’ Liability, Public Liability, and Motor claims under a high self-insured retention, ensuring they are handled to the highest standards and in line with RMG’s strategy and operational needs.
Reporting to the Head of Personal Injury Claims, you’ll also work closely with the Personal Injury Claims Manager and external panel law firms to deliver best outcomes for the business. You’ll also play a key role in developing protocols, overseeing compliance, managing suppliers, and ensuring accurate financial reserves and MI reporting.
What You’ll Do
• Oversee a large caseload of high-value and/or complex EL/PL and Motor claims, including those involving chronic pain, functional neurological disorder (FND), exaggeration and fraud.
• Act as a technical referral point for internally handled claims and deputise for the Head of Claims when required.
• Ensure accurate financial reserves are placed on and regularly updated on all claims.
• Scrutinise invoices from external panel law firms, including detailed reviews of time recordings, to ensure best value for RMG.
• Monitor and enforce adherence to protocols and procedures by external legal providers, introducing improvements where necessary.
• Provide mentoring and guidance to the Personal Injury Claims Manager, supporting their development in managing complex claims.
• Analyse claims trends and report insights to the wider business, ensuring accurate MI and reserves at all times.
• Manage relationships with law firms and suppliers, ensuring proactive and high-standard file handling.
• Support the Head of Claims in handling catastrophic injury claims and managing the overall claims portfolio.
• Drive continuous improvement, benchmarking, and cost reduction initiatives across the claims portfolio.
• Ensure compliance with Delegated Authorities process and escalate significant developments promptly.
About You
* A senior technical claims professional with significant experience in personal injury claims within a law firm, insurer, TPA, or in-house claims team.
* Proven track record in handling high-value, complex claims and delivering pragmatic solutions to challenging issues.
* Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
* Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative and accessible approach.
* Legal qualifications are desirable but not essential.
* Self-motivated with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.
* Ability to adapt to change and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
* Strong organisational and execution skills, with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
