About the role
This role supports the provision of palliative care to children, young people and families living with a life limited condition. Palliative care includes the provision of respite breaks, enabling children opportunities to have fun, make memories ‘adding life to shortened years’. You will provide high quality, holistic, family centred and compassionate care whilst meeting the complex clinical needs of the children in our care. The hospice delivers end of life care to a small number of children, working with specialist teams providing training and advice to manage children’s symptoms effectively. You will work as part of a large team comprising of clinical staff, activities coordinators and the child and family support team.
Key Responsibilities
* Participate in the delivery of high-quality nursing care to children and young people who receive respite and end of life care at the hospice.
* Contribute to the ongoing assessment of children and young people, providing and monitoring care.
* Participate in the training and development opportunities and frameworks provided by the hospice education team.
* Report changes in the child/young person’s symptoms and condition, implementing changes in treatment/symptom management with support from the nursing team and according to hospice policies and procedures, following care plans and the use of patient safety tools.
* Work within your scope of practice and clinical competence, asking for help from registered and senior nurses when appropriate.
* Advocate for the child and young person and their families, supporting and promoting decisions, choices and best interests.
* Work as part of a team, providing support and supervision to students and junior members of staff.
