Technology is essential to modern nonprofit work, but many charities lack senior IT leadership. Your expertise will help Afrikindness operate efficiently, securely, and innovatively—allowing us to reach more families, protect sensitive data, and compete for digital‑era funding. You'll build the tech foundations that enable sustainable growth and impact.
What are we looking for?
Essential
* Senior‑level IT experience (CTO, IT Director, Head of IT, or equivalent)
* Strategic thinking and the ability to align technology with organisational mission
* Broad technical knowledge across infrastructure, cloud, security, and systems
* Experience leading IT transformation, implementation, or governance projects
* Strong understanding of cybersecurity, GDPR, and data protection
* Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences
* Passion for social impact and commitment to digital inclusion
* Ability to work independently and provide strategic direction with minimal supervision
Desirable
* Charity or nonprofit sector IT experience
* Knowledge of Charity CRM systems (e.g., Blackbaud, Monday)
* Experience with remote/hybrid working technologies
* Understanding of accessibility standards and assistive technologies
* Certifications (CISSP, ITIL, AWS/Azure, etc.)
* Experience managing IT on limited budgets

What will you be doing?
Strategic Leadership
* Develop and implement Afrikindness's IT and digital strategy aligned with organisational goals
* Advise the Board of Trustees and senior leadership on technology investments, risks, and opportunities
* Lead digital transformation initiatives that improve efficiency, accessibility, and impact
* Set technology priorities and roadmaps for the short, medium, and long term
Infrastructure & Systems Management
* Oversee IT infrastructure, systems, and platforms (cloud services, databases, CRM, communications tools)
* Ensure robust cybersecurity, data protection, and GDPR compliance
* Manage relationships with IT suppliers, vendors, and service providers
* Implement backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans
Digital Inclusion & Accessibility
* Champion accessible, user‑friendly technology that serves diverse communities
* Advise on digital inclusion strategies and support for digitally excluded families
* Ensure websites, platforms, and systems meet accessibility standards (WCAG)
Team Support & Capacity Building
* Provide technical support and guidance to staff and volunteers
* Develop IT policies, procedures, and user guides
* Deliver training on digital tools, cybersecurity, and data protection
* Build internal digital capability across the organisation
Innovation & Development
* Identify opportunities to use technology for greater community impact (e.g., apps, online platforms, AI tools)
* Explore partnerships with tech companies, digital inclusion organisations, or pro bono tech providers
* Stay current with emerging technologies and charity sector digital trends
