We welcome you to join our friendly ENDOSCOPY team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Sister/Charge Nurse.

Our speciality makes us exciting, ambitious and forward-thinking and we are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, motivated and resilient individual to join our nursing team.

This exciting opportunity will allow the individual to work alongside the Endoscopy managers to provide day to day leadership of the Endoscopy units. You will work as part of our dedicated, hardworking and friendly team in one of our two Endoscopy units within the Trust. Although you will be based on the CDH endoscopy units, you will be expected to provide cross site cover at RPH when needed and weekend GI Bleed rota cover.

Main duties of the job

We carry out a wide range of both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures to both outpatients and inpatients, these include;

Chorley Hospital procedures include:

1. GI procedures including; OGD/Colonoscopy/Flexible sigmoidoscopy/Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)/Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
2. We work with the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) as part of the team in the north-west.
3. Diagnostic bronchoscopies.

7. Diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy including: Endobronchial Ultrasound/Trans Bronchial Needle Aspiration (EBUS/TBNA)/Endobronchial Valves and coils and stents/Thoracoscopy/Indwelling Pleural catheter (IPC) placement/Nasal-endoscopy for Induced Laryngeal Obstruction (ILO).

Your role will be to provide day to day leadership of the Endoscopy team (with the Endoscopy manager) to ensure that patients have a positive Endoscopy experience. You will have excellent communication skills, be forward thinking and well organised, with a positive attitude towards flexibility and change.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

8. Assist and support the Endoscopy Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.
9. Work closely with the Endoscopy Manager to ensure maintenance and continuing compliance with JAG accreditation.
10. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
11. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff
12. Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines.
13. Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
14. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
15. Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
16. Promote provision of patient education and health promotion
17. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
18. Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
19. Participate in education and training of junior staff encouraging professional growth and development.
20. Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice.

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

21. Appropriate NMC Registration
22. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification
23. Diploma or Degree
24. Evidence of continued professional development in Endoscopy

Desirable criteria

25. Post registration qualification in area of speciality area
26. Level 2 or 3 ILM (Institute of leadership and Management) or equivalent
27. Minimum of two years experience within the endoscopy setting

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

28. Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality e.g. Endoscopy
29. Evidence of leadership experience
30. Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice
31. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding relevant to clinical practice, including policies & procedure guidelines

Desirable criteria

32. Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice
33. Experience of budgetary management
34. Knowledge of Ethical issues
